Critter Hill Farm is a Sustainable Family Farm.

On Critter Hill Farm we do our part to practice sustainable agriculture. First and foremost we put the welfare of our animals. At Critter Hill Farm we are very conscious of our animal's conditions and needs, insuring that they live happy and healthy lives on our farms. With this being said we have several breeding programs on the farm, and we do use antibiotics as need for necessary medical attention of an injury or sickness. We do NOT raise any of our animals using growth hormones or stimulants. Animals are free ranging in the traditional manor that which previous generations of our family have done.

Since 2007, the farm has been working diligently to do our part in protecting the environment. Critter Hill Farm has had in place and currently follows active Manure Storage and Management, Nutrient Management, Waist Management, Odar Management, Water Quality Management, Erosion and Sediment Control Plan for animal use areas. All that are approved at local, state and federal levels. These plans require record keeping, soil testing from our farm, inspections of our farmland, pastures and the animal facilities, testing of all the manure that is removed from our farm to provide fertilizer for another local hay and crop farmer, who also has the similar plans and inspections. In Adams County, PA we are part of a watershed, that feeds into the Chesapeake Bay therefore we feel it is not only the right thing to do but it is very important to do our part to protect the bay.

What is Sustainable Agriculture?

"In simplest terms, sustainable agriculture is the production of food, fiber, or other plant or animal products using farming techniques that protect the environment, public health, human communities, and animal welfare. This form of agriculture enables us to produce healthful food without compromising future generations' ability to do the same." GRACE Communications Foundation
